So, if you see the website, great. Now, how fast was it? Wait, what?! Why does that matter. My page is coming up, right? Well, good for you that the page is visible. But, Google just announced that one of the criteria for ranking your site on Google is mobile page speed. In other words, how fast does your website come up on a mobile phone? The slower, the lower. And, considering Google drives 96% of mobile search traffic, you better listen!

The average load time for a website on a mobile device is 19 seconds over a 3G connection. Google (owned by alphabet) states, “That’s about as long as it takes to sing the entire alphabet song.” Thanks, Google! So, what happens when we speed that up a little. To something around 5 seconds for a load time?

  • 70% LONGER Average Sessions | Longer amount of time a customer spends with your brand!
  • 35% LOWER Bounce Rates | Lower amount of people jumping off your page to go to a competitor’s site that is faster!

Google has the need for speed lately. The faster the site the quicker the results for them. And, they found that 53% of mobile site visits are ABANDONED if the page takes longer than 3 seconds to load!

SO WHAT?!

Okay, so you’re still thinking that this is crazy? Well, remember that 88% of customers who search for a type of local business on a mobile device actually calls, or GOES to that business within 24 hours! (Nextafy) So, now do we have your attention? Okay, one more… Average smartphone conversion rates are up 64% compared to the average desktop conversion rates. (CMS Report).

Why does Google see the importance of mobile? Mobile screentime just overtook desktop screentime with a score of 51% (mobile) to 42% (desktop). And, that trend is not stopping. American’s are expected to spend 3 hours and 25 minutes on nonvoice mobile media in 2018 (eMarketer). And, since more than 50% of smartphone users grab their smartphone immediately after waking up. That trend is going to rise, too!
